White Blank Page
You desired my attention
But denied my affections
I find this song chastening, mostly because much of the time I do desire people’s attention and do my best to deny their affections. Not that I’m sleeping around or anything, but to a certain extent Jesus had a good point when he said that a man who even looks at a woman in lust commits adultery in his heart. It’s a good reminder that we must consider people, and relationships, whole, and not superficially.
As appealing as bodies are to us,
Can you lie next to her
And giver her your heart, your heart
As well as your body?
What many people would have you believe today is that giving your heart is optional, and giving your body is fun. So why not just do the one and not the other? How can people be so consistently blind as to ignore the emotional connection that people seek in opening and giving themselves to one another? People want to be connected, we need human relationships to feel human. That’s what makes facebook so appealing. So,
Tell me now, where was my fault
In loving you with my whole heart?
The fault is that love spoils the fun. Commitment ruins the game by dragging it out longer than expected, and it changes the rules. Rather than trying to ignore our hearts, which society is doing a great job at, embracing their needs and deciding rather to build strong, stable relationships is important for a happy life. Indeed, the title “White Blank Page” implies the purity of heart and clarity of conscience we need in order to be right with God and one another.
Can you kneel before the King
And say I’m clean?
This is why I’m waiting.
